Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI)

Helping Nipissing District employers attract and retain the skilled workers they need.

Nipissing District has been selected as one of six regions across Ontario to participate in the 2026-2027 Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative.

Led by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), REDI helps employers address local labour shortages by attracting and retaining skilled international workers. Through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the REDI initiative provides dedicated nomination opportunities to participating regions.

For 2027, Nipissing District has been allocated up to 150 nomination spaces for eligible applicants with qualifying job offers in the district. The initiative covers the entire Nipissing District census division, as defined by Statistics Canada, and runs until December 31, 2027.

The City of North Bay's Economic Development Department serves as the community lead, helping employers across Nipissing District access dedicated OINP support, including information sessions and provincial resources and support.

How Does it Work?

REDI is not a separate immigration program or application process. It operates through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), using the province's existing eligibility requirements and Expression of Interest (EOI) system.

For applications supported by an employer job offer, the process involves six steps:
